Robert Ambler Officer born in Denver, Colorado on 10/ 27/1890. He attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He graduated in 1913. Shortly afterwards The Great Westerns Sugar Company employed his expertise and placed him in their executive line which lasted for several years.
Mr. Officer traveled throughout Europe in the late 20s. He studied under the masters of photography in Germany and France and returned to the Los Angles, Hollywood area. Where he had a studio and belonged to Camera Pictoalist where he knew famous and up-coming stars. During World War II he enlisted as a Lieutenant in the Air Force, specializing in developing aerial photographic methods valuable for surveillance . After the War he went to Denver, but an opportunity to teach brought him back to California in the early 60’s. With his own developing laboratory, he created a unique method of lighting that advanced the technique of touching up gelatin silver prints.
He was awarded exceptional photographic art diplomas by camera clubs and frequently was invited to exhibit his work throughout Europe and the United States. His work was especially acclaimed by the Smithsonian Institute. Among his memberships were the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, la Sociedad Fotografic de Espana and Photographic Society of America.
