Hans Mangelsdorf

Johannes “Hans” Mangelsdorf was born in Leipzig Germany in 1903. His art education was in Vienna and Germany. He moved to Louisiana in 1929, While working as the assistant curator for the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport, he was commissioned by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) to paint dioramas during the Great Depression. Following World War 2, he travelled to paint scenes of post-war Japan.
