Boudoir Art
Boudoir art become a distinct movement beginning around 1900 and lasted until roughly 1940. Over one thousand different etchings and lithographs were created in France by almost a hundred engravers. These pictures all shared one theme: each of them focused on the inherent beauty of women. Boudoir gained rapid popularity with the public as post - Victorian socialites evolved to become more progressive and open minded. The carefree “modern girl” who was depicted reveled in her recent liberation from the restrictions of the past.
